Friday Night Links

We continue the wildly popular and catchy weekly feature that is not necessarily posted at night. This week I saved a bunch of links throughout the week in preparation for this momentous post. Onto the links.

Mayor Bloomberg to homeless: We’ll pay for a one-way ticket to ship you out of NYC.

The Onion is “bought” by chinese businessmen. In classic Onion fashion, the headline: Why Did No One Inform Us Of The Imminent Death Of The American Newspaper Industry?

Wall Street Journal had eight unemployed people blog about their experience looking for jobs. Many are working now. But at a cost.

The Journalist’s Guide to Twitter.

This video is hilarious to me because I know many people who are/have been addicted to World of Warcraft:

You know I love LOST so I don’t want to hear any lip. “Ben”, “Hurley” and the ever eye-lined “Richard” discuss the end of the show and the Jack, Kate and Sawyer love triangle.(Video)

Scientists Worry Machines May Outsmart Man. This article has really cool, if slightly unnerving buzzwords like the rapture, the end of the human era, and the singularity,

Did Obama ever really believe in bipartisanship? And what does the term mean anyway?

The Audacity of Hops: Beer summit stats. Bud Light for Obama, Blue Moon for Sergeant James Crowley, Sam Adams Light for Harvard Scholar Henry Louis Gates, and a Buckler nonalcoholic beer for Vice President Joe Biden. Biden must have been designated driver.

LOST: Season 6 Promo Poster Has Fans Giddy

When I saw this poster I squealed like a rambunctious child. Ok I didnt but still.

What’s great about writing about LOST is that I’m pretty sure 98 percent of the readers are as fanatical and crazy about the show as I am. LOST is the definition of an action-packed drama and in five seasons a lot has changed. Characters have come and gone and time travel has been spliced into the plot to spice things up. That and a dusting of the supernatural has unfailingly made things more interesting. You never know what the creators have up their sleeves and it has become part of the charm of the show.

So when a poster was seen at Comic Con that showed all of the main cast members back for season six in some capacity–dead, alive, and those who we don’t know about yet–a fan frenzy predictably ensued.

Over at damoncarltonandapolarbear.com Paul Scheer best known from Best Week Ever says the cast members are:

(FROM LEFT TO RIGHT) Faraday, Boone, Miles, Michael, Ana Lucia, Charlotte, Shannon, Desmond, Eko, Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Libby, Sun, Jin, Claire, Hurley, Juliet, Charlie, Frank, Richard, Bernard and Rose

So we have Boone, Michael, Ana Lucia, Charlotte, Shannon, Eko, Libby, and Charlie who are certifiably dead. Claire, Sayid, and Juliet most likely alive but you never know. Oh and everybody else should be fine if the nuclear blast didn’t kill them. The best part of the poster is not even the return of so many familiar faces. Locke has his back turned to everybody which as we know is an allusion to his crazy body snatching doppelganger. Some call him Jacob’s nemesis, I prefer Evil Locke. It has a nice ring to it. Oh man, I could write 3,000 words about LOST so I think I’ll break this into a two parter and talk some LOST theories next week.

LOST: A ‘Rewatch’ Blog Captures My Heart

LOST is so good. Nothing witty to say here. Why havent you watched it?

Where to begin. LOST is one of the best TV shows ever. There I said it. I will not spoil anything because I truly believe getting into the show, even at this point, is worth it. But here’s the thing. The show starts off with a completely feasible beginning point and then takes liberties in succeeding seasons. Eventually the show develops a solid foundation of its own mythology but the strength of the show always goes back to one basic truth. You are really invested in the characters. Its a great show, with a lot of twists and turns and season six-the last season-is coming early next year.

So if you’re a LOST fan, and at this point its safe to say that you are or are considering taking the plunge into the 103¬† episodes that you’ve missed, there is a great blog out there for you to peruse while you waste time at work (after you read all of my posts and bookmark my site that is). The Lostpedia Blog has an excellent¬† rewatch blog where they have started from the pilot episode of the series to gauge what we have learned about the whirlwind plot. If you’re a fan, don’t miss it.

I quite liked The Fray’s “You Found Me Video” as a vehicle for the season five preview. Check it out.
